WBO Scholarship Recipients WBO sponsors a named scholarship, since 1989, that is awarded annually to a Montgomery College student. The scholarship recipient is selected by Montgomery College according to criteria established by WBO. The value of and criteria fo rthe scholarship are determined by the Board annually (usually at the March or April Board meeting). Traditionally, the value of the scholarship is $1,000 and criteria are as follows:

Antalan 1999 Michelle Lobos, is majoring in advertising art and computer graphics. Since starting college, she has been active in Big Brothers and Big Sisters. In addition to her community service volunteerism, Ms. Lobos' interests include saving the rain forest, the United Way and participating in a Latino outreach program. She tutors sutdents in Spanish and the culture of Latin America. 1999 Dana Cohen , at 21, is enrolled as an Education/Psychlogy major. She has worked with children for 10 years, including coaching MSI soccer. 2000 Geraldine Jackson, is a 42-year old single mother of two who had been a former museum director. After a series of both personal and professional setbacks during a two-year period, Ms. Jackson enrolled in Montgomery College hoping to find new direction in her life. WBO hopes that its contribution to her education will assist her in achieving her eventual goal of establishing a non-profit organization for assisting women who have demonstrated ability, but have been set back by negative changes. 2001 Lori Edmonds 2002 Sherma Darlington-Wilson is a resuming student after raising 2 children. She is working at Community Support Services with autistic hildren and young adults, and studying for a degree in mental health and social work. 2003 Diana Boston-White 2004 Nadine Nuhn is graduating from Montgomery College in 2005 and plans to continue at UMd, Shady Grove, with a major in accounting, planning to become a CPA. She holds a part time job, is active in campus activities including a sorority, and maintains a 3.73 GPA. She realized that a high school diploma was not sufficient to get as professional a job as she would like, moved here from Iowa to continue her studies. 2005 Aileen Mendoza is studying business administration, hopes to receive a BA in Business Administration and an MA in Hospital Administration. In 2005, in honor of our 25th anniversary, we also gave a scholarship to a Senior Girl Scout (based on the theme, Past, Present and Future), the future of women in business. Christina Constantinides is the recipient of "Women Mean Business" Scholarship. A senior at Damascus HS, member in the National Honor Society and in the student government association, Christine is interested in a career in aerospace engineering. She will be attending UNC in September 2006. |
