Founding & Original Members Diane Norcross and Helen Hillstrom,
our founders, got together in 1980 and invited
10 others to join them in forming a support and
networking group for businesswomen in Montgomery
County: This group expanded with the addition of Juanita Ohanian, Peggy Bodine Reese, and were soon joined by Terry Eliot, Sharon Fountain, and Lynn Clark. Bernice Grossman, executive director of the Rockville Chamber at that time, invited them to use her conference room, and this is where they met for about 2 years before they outgrew the space, moving to an old hotel on Washington Street, where it was so dark and dreary, that when the County offered a space, it was gladly accepted. Meetings were organized with the first order of business being taking reservations for those wishing to go to dinner afterward and then calling the restaurant with the reservation count. Diane remembers enjoying the camaraderie while having "a lot of wine and cheese before adjourning to dinner." [written on the occasion of WBO's 25th anniversary, September 2005] |
